Details

The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler returns to Newmarket's Old Town Hall Theatre on International Women's Day, March 8, 2026, with a cast of local performers, Directed by Angel Freedman and produced by Sterling Williams. The play explores the female experience through a collection of monologues based on interviews with women about their vaginas, delving into topics like sexuality, body image, violence against women, and the diverse ways women relate to their bodies. While it has been nearly three decades since The Vagina Monologues shattered taboos with its debut, its relevance continues to grow rather than be diminished with the passing years. The play shocked with stories that hadn’t been told before — and with words not commonly or comfortably uttered — in the voice of women.

The Vagina Monologues not only birthed a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, but it also empowered women to tell their stories to create change. The production aims to create reactions and evoke emotions — it’s thought-provoking, outrageous, disturbing at times and, more often, amusing and entertaining.
